Separate minor wear from storm restoration
A torn screen, loose reachable trim, opened caulk joint, or isolated fence fastener may fit ordinary repair. I check the surrounding material before changing the visible piece. Fasteners need sound backing, patches need stable board, and sealant needs a clean dry joint. Repairing only the surface can leave the original cause untouched and make the next failure harder to read.
Roof damage, active water entry, broad siding loss, downed electrical equipment, and structural movement need another contractor. When the request reaches structural, roofing, major plumbing, electrical, gas, active water, mold, or broad reconstruction work, I stop at the handyman boundary. The right result may be a referral rather than another layer of material over a condition that needs diagnosis.
